We're Back

It has been a while since our last update and for that we at Gender Warriors apologize, many things have changed during this time.
After Trans Pride of May 2014 in June our President Finn Lefevre and our Co President Oliver Reitz married each other; moving away shortly after so Finn could work on their Master’s Degree. Gender Warriors will truly miss Finn and Oliver; the inspiration, their energy, time, courage and knowledge it took to help create and shape Gender Warriors. Thank You two for all that you have done for the Evansville (IN) area Transgender and Gender-nonconforming community.
In November we did host a TDOR, it was held at the United Unitarian Church in Evansville. Although we had invited the public it had turned out to be private event with only the Gender Warriors Board Members showing up.
We have moved out of the Tri-State Alliance’s Office Space & were offered a more centrally located office to hold our meetings. Please messages us on our Facebook page or at for meeting location and times.
Currently we are planing the 2nd Annual Trans Pride Week to continue to educate society on Transgender Issues. We are hoping to increase attendance from last year’s presentations. Our goal is to take donations made at Trans Pride Week and with other ongoing fund raising so we can file our 501 c later this year.

Trans Pride Week

5/20/14 (Tues):  "Transgender 101" at PFLAG Evansville
Gender Warriors members will be presenting an introduction to gender identity, specifically geared toward friends, family, and allies of transgender people. This presentation will cover beginning terminology, different aspects of gender identity and transgender experience, and how to be a good ally. This event is the first of three events, serving as the foundation for the next two.

5/21/14 (Wed):  "Transgender Social & Mental Health" at Unitarian Universalist Church
This presentation will focus on issues for social workers and counselors. Topics include standards of care, counseling tasks, and mental health concerns. The presentation is geared towards mental health professionals, but all people are welcome to attend. This presentation will build on information provided in "Transgender 101."

5/22/14 (Thur):  "Transgender Medical Transitioning" at ARG
This presentation is geared towards medical professionals, but will be educational and enlightening for anyone interested in transgender identities. The presentation will focus on aspects of surgical, hormonal, and medical transition for transgender people. This presentation will build on information provided in "Transgender 101."

All three events are free and open to the public. Feel free to attend any or all three presentations. We hope to see you there!

Change to our General Meeting Schedule

Gender Warriors is currently testing a new format for our general meetings. We will still be having weekly meetings at the same time, but every other week we will have a movie or game night rather than a group discussion. We hope this will allow members to let off some steam and relax during the casual meeting sessions so we can get into more serious topics during the regular discussion meetings.

Last week we had watched To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, a 1995 gender bender film about three drag queens (with varying degrees of trans* identity) who get sidetracked in small town America on their way to a pageant. This coming week will have our regular discussion meeting.

Upcoming movies include Zerophilia, Boys Don't Cry, and Soldier's Girl. Topics for discussion will include relationships and dating, coming out in the workplace, and plans for the 2nd Annual Evansville Transgender Day of Remembrance.  (Pictures from 2012's TDOR)

If you would like to vote on what movies we watch or post ideas for what we discuss in meetings, head over to our facebook page or email us at
